Mental Health Awareness

A short introduction to Mental Health in the UK. The course will outline the medical model and identify the main categories of mental illness. A brief cultural history will explore the changing attitudes of societies toward mental illness, and identify the role of the social model in treatment and recovery.

This course is suitable for Health and Social Care Workers, Housing Officers and Support Workers, Third Sector employees and volunteers.

  • Know the main forms of mental ill health
  • Know the impact of mental ill health on individuals and others in their social network
  • Understand the principles that promote and support well-being and recovery from mental health problems
