This one-day introductory course has for many years been repeatedly well received by both participants and organisations alike. It aims to introduce the welfare benefits system with simplicity, particularly the distinctions between means-tested, non-means tested, contributory and universal benefits, but specifically in the contact of welfare reform.
The course has been designed to enable delegates to recognise and understand the purpose of the most commonly claimed benefits, focusing on jobseekers and incapacity for work, the discretionary assistance, housing benefit and Disability Living Allowance changes including the new Personal Independence Payment.

Delegates are supplied with a course companion containing comprehensive reference material for future use. The day is broken up by a series of exercises focussing on each of the areas covered, and the trainer employs visual aids and prompts to ensure the complexity of the subject is communicated in a user-friendly way
